Frequently Asked Questions about Sinks & Appliances
What type of sink can be used?
There are few requirements when it comes to sinks. In order to maintain the structural integrity of the countertop, we require at least 3" of stone in front and back of the sink cutout. At CGM we use aluminum undermount sink brackets that are attached to notched grooves on the underside of your stone for almost every sink installed. Occasionally, due to space configurations or for structural integrity purposes an additional wood support will be added to the sink attachments. We will need to know the sink type prior to fabricating your stone. CGM offers a variety of styles of undermount kitchen and porcelain vanity sinks.
What’s the difference between a drop-in sink and an undermount sink?
A drop-in sink sits on top of the cutout on your stone counter while an undermount sink sits beneath the cutout. There is generally an extra polishing charge required in preparing a stone countertop for an undermount sink.
How does the dishwasher attach to the granite tops?
The best way to attach a dishwasher is to have mounting brackets on the side that attach the base cabinets. For older models we can epoxy the top mount bracket to the bottom of the granite or silicone a small strip of wood under the counter. Once dry, the dishwasher can be screwed into the wood. You may also use dishwasher straps and attach them to the back wall or to the cabinets. This option will make the dishwasher more difficult to service.
Are the sink, faucet and cooktop cutouts done on the job-site?
Sink cutouts are done at CGM whether a sink you purchase or one of ours. If you purchase your own sink, we must have the sink at our warehouse prior to fabrication. We will not base the cutout of sinks solely on templates.
Cooktop cutouts will be completed on the jobsite. Your cooktop must be assembled prior to your installation day, so that our installers can take accurate measurements for the cooktop cut out. We utilize a vacuum system while cutting to minimize dust. Faucet holes are primarily done on the jobsite as well. If you are picking up your fabricated stone then we will drill faucet holes to your specifications at our fabrication center.
